Elaine Rooney, Psy.D.
Rooney Psychological Services PLLC
Hi, I’m Dr. Elaine Rooney, a licensed clinical psychologist.
My goal as a psychologist is to create a safe, supportive, productive space where people can explore their emotions, heal from trauma, and develop a greater understanding of themselves. Whether you’re facing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or difficulty in adjusting to change or stress, I’m here to help you develop tools and coping skills and gain insight that can help you in your own personal growth.
I worked professionally for close to ten years prior to making a career transition to become a clinical psychologist. Consequently, I bring a breadth of professional experience that helps me relate to the nuanced stressors that people encounter in their working life.
My training as a clinical psychologist has also been diverse, ranging from such varied environments as private practice to intensive outpatient to correctional. These experiences equip me to work with a wide range of referrals and concerns. From them I have learned the capacity to experience psychological pain is a human commonality, irrespective of a person’s background or whatever walk of life they may come from. As a psychologist, I do not judge the source of a person’s discomfort, but instead I understand my role is to help a person feel better in their own skin.
To achieve this goal, I have been trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches, and work in an integrative way to be most helpful. Some therapeutic approaches I frequently work with include:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Exposure Therapy
- Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
I also provide psychological assessments for concerns including:
- Neurodivergence/learning differences including ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Mood and personality
I can help treat anxiety, depression, relationship issues, processing trauma, and concerns with executive functioning. I also can help support clients through major life transitions such as pregnancy, postpartum challenges, infertility, and grief/loss. As a mom myself, I enjoy working with parents and understand and can relate to the unique challenges of motherhood. For adolescents and teens, I offer a compassionate, developmentally-sensitive approach to help them manage school-related stress, self-esteem, and social issues.
I aim to meet you where you are. My approach is to create a nurturing, non-judgmental environment where you feel heard, supported, and productive in therapy. I understand that seeking help can be a lot. My goal is to make it feel as safe and useful as possible.
